WebOS update is here

December 29, 2009 Leave a comment

The latest version of Palm webOS is launching initially for Sprint Palm Pre and Palm Pixi customers in the US. Palm webOS 1.3.5 offers improved performance and enhancements for several features, as well as more consistent performance for Palm Pixi. Notable improvements include:

• Room for more apps: You can now download and store gigabytes of applications, effectively eliminating the limitation on the number of apps that could be installed.
• Better battery management: Users in areas with marginal network coverage may see improved battery life.
• Palm Beta App Catalog improvement: Searching for and downloading apps have been enhanced.

Additional details about the update can be found here for Palm Pre and here for Palm Pixi. Follow @palm on Twitter to be notified whenever updates are available on your carrier.

BADA UI pics

December 22, 2009 Leave a comment

The last post about the new bada ui I had some strong words about now this just makes me hate it more. If you take a look at the first pic then you see that they copied synbiam which is one of the one of the ugliest mobile operating systems ever and the second pic of the flip clock taken from sense ui is ugly they didn’t do it right it looks ugly compared to the one on sense. They are just taking things from other operating systems and making it worse but you will never know until the finished product.

GOOGLE PHONE CONFIRMED

December 12, 2009 Leave a comment

So Google have written a blog post confirming a Google Phone is in existence. Before you get excited though, read the blog post:

At Google, we are constantly experimenting with new products and technologies, and often ask employees to test these products for quick feedback and suggestions for improvements in a process we call dogfooding (from “eating your own dogfood”). Well this holiday season, we are taking dogfooding to a new level.

We recently came up with the concept of a mobile lab, which is a device that combines innovative hardware from a partner with software that runs on Android to experiment with new mobile features and capabilities, and we shared this device with Google employees across the globe. This means they get to test out a new technology and help improve it.

Unfortunately, because dogfooding is a process exclusively for Google employees, we cannot share specific product details. We hope to share more after our dogfood diet.

You should have noticed the device is not built by Google but by a partner – reportedly HTC – who build a number of devices for a number of manufacturers. As Mashable discusses, the device sounds like the HTC Passion, which is scheduled for an early 2010 launch. Does it still make it a Google Phone? Is it a “Google Phone” if it has the Google branding (which we don’t know yet) but another identical phone exists without the Google branding but say, Motorola’s? I’d argue yes, but lets be blunt about it, it’s no iPhone.

Sense UI spotted with it’s buddy 2.1

Alright HTC Hero owners: backup your handset, brew yourself a strong cup of coffee, and get ready to RTFM, because an unofficial Android 2.1 ROM — complete with Sense UI — is available for your handset. A few days back we reported that Android 2.1 was spotted running on the Hero, but now, courtesy of XDA-developers, the rumored build is on the intertubes for all to download. Come on, try it out, we know you’re curious; don’t forget to backup your data, and be sure to let us know how it goes in the comments.

HTC Hero updated to 2.1

November 29, 2009 Leave a comment

HTC promised the world an Android 2.0-based firmware for its Hero line once it figured out the nitty gritty details of porting Sense to Google’s latest code, leapfrogging Donut altogether — but now, it looks like they’re gonna do one better. Screenshots found today show a Hero running Android 2.1, which would dovetail nicely with the fact that Google had teased a “minor update” to 2.0 before the end of 2009 back when it announced Eclair last month. The interface looks largely untouched from 1.5, proof that HTC was able to bring Sense up to speed with minimum drama; it’s unclear when this’ll all be available, but considering that Sprint’s version
just got a super-minor update, some carrier-branded versions could be in for a wait.

WiFi hero for blackberry

November 25, 2009 Leave a comment

Twinkler Software have released a pretty cool application that controls the WiFi status and saves battery power. It works by remembering the location of your WiFi hotspots, so you can leave WiFi off and save battery. When you enter the WiFi zone, WiFi Hero will boot up your WiFi connection and connect you. It also has 2 other modes for changing your WiFi status including screen and charging status.

1. Location Based. In this mode, WiFi Hero will automatically learn the location of the WiFi Hotspot you are currently connected to, and when WiFi is not connected (you are out of range of this Hotspot), WiFi Hero will automatically turn off WiFi – and when you come back to the same Hotspot location, it will automatically turn on WiFi.

2. Screen Status. In this mode, WiFi Hero will automatically turn on WiFi when the screen is on and automatically turn off WiFi when the screen is off – making this very useful when you use your Blackberry to browse the web.

3. Charging Status. In this mode, WiFi Hero will automatically turn on WiFi when the device is on charge, and automatically turn off WiFi when device is not charging and on battery power.

T-MOBILE COMPLETE

November 22, 2009 Leave a comment

We mentioned T-Mobile’s interesting Complete prepaid package when it launched but we did not have all the details and some were left wanting. We dug a little bit further and got the following document from T-Mobile outlining the plan. I am not sure how amazing of a deal this plan is anymore considering the fact that the device is $299 and the only plan with web access below is $80/month but it is still pretty impressive.

Highlights include:
• BlackBerry Curve 8520 is the only BlackBerry offered currently and will cost $299
• Devices will only be available at Best Buy and select Wal-Mart stores.
• No contract, credit check, or deposit • First month free

T-Mobile Complete Pricing Plans are:
• $50/month
◦ Unlimited talk, or
◦ Unlimited text + 1,000 Whenever Minutes + Unlimited Nights & Weekends and T-Mobile to T-Mobile. • $60/month
◦ Unlimited talk + text
• $80/month
◦ Unlimited talk + text + Web
